General Data Protection Regulation
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) is a regulation by which the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission intend to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the European Union (EU). The regulation became enforceable from 25 May 2018 and it does not require national governments to pass any enabling legislation, and is thus directly binding and applicable.
Under the GDPR organisations are encouraged to give back control of personal data to the individual, or citizen. Making it easier for them to access the data organisations hold on them and for them to be able to change the permissions they grant for it to be used (see Lawful basis for processing) or shared.
The club expects to be largely unaffected by this regulation, but it does hold personal data and there are actions the committee is taking to ensure compliance.
