Congratulations to JANE MELBY AND DIANE STRICKLAND, this year's nominees to the District 7 Goodwill Commiittee.
JANE - nomination: "Jane is a great partner who is always supportive and never critical with her partners even if there is a reason to comment. She is very gracious to opponents and welcoming to new and less experienced players. I've recently observed that Jane has the same friendly demeanor even when playing online on Bridge Base. In addition to working at the 2013 Atlanta NABC with the hospitality committee, Jane was the 2018 NABC co-chair for the Intermediate/Newcomer group. She worked many hours before and during the tournament and stayed at the host hotel for the duration to provide coverage for the I/N desk and ensure the players felt welcome and always had a partner. Her efforts made it a success. The NABC tournament chairs received very complimentary feedback from the I/N players as to how much they enjoyed the tournament. Jane has taught beginning bridge for many years and strives to bring new players to the game. She also gives back to the community through her volunteer efforts, including most recently serving as a volunteer at the election polls. Jane makes the game of bridge more enjoyable for everyone and would be a very worthy member of the Goodwill Committee."
DIANE - nomination: "I have known Diane for almost 5 years and have had the privilege of working with her as a Director at the Bridge Club of Atlanta, as well as having her as a partner. I can say without any hesitancy that Diane is our best Director. She treats all players with respect and never loses her composure. Director calls can sometimes be tense, but I have never seen Diane react in any way other than exemplary. The same is true about her demeanor as a bridge player. She is consistently gracious and kind at the bridge table. Everyone at our club loves her. I enjoy playing with her because I know that the game at my table will be pleasant and drama-free. She always finds time to mentor newer players who consistently rate her as their favorite mentor. I cannot think of another player who better fulfills the highest standards of the game. Every bridge club needs a Diane, and we are lucky to have our very own."
