Unit 253 Goodwill Nominee – 2023
Giorgio Casinovi
The Duplicate Bridge Association of Atlanta is proud to nominate Dr. Giorgio Casinovi for the District 7 Goodwill Committee.
As an up and coming player himself, Giorgio was actively involved in the development of the Georgia Tech Bridge Club. For many years he has devoted a great deal of his time to the day-to-day activities of the club. He attends all bridge classes at Tech, organizes transportation for the students to travel to club games and tournaments (including NABCs), keeps track of all bridge supplies and mentors new players.
Some collegiate clubs struggle when student leadership graduates, but Giorgio’s consistent presence has enabled the club to maintain a steady membership for many years. Giorgio epitomizes the term volunteer, as demonstrated when he had a broken wrist but still managed to bring bridge supplies to the club game for the students.
In addition, Giorgio was actively involved in organizing the very successful independent 2020 online Collegiate Championship, as well as the online Junior Bridge League which ran from September 2020 to May 2021.
Giorgio lives in Atlanta and has been a Senior Research Engineer at Georgia Tech since 1989.
Unit 253 Goodwill Nominee – 2023
Joan Sheldon
Unit 253 is proud to nominate Joan Sheldon to become a member of the District 7 Goodwill Committee. Joan has played duplicate bridge in Atlanta for approximately 30 years and always exemplifies the highest ethical standards, as well as a pleasant and often jovial demeanor. Her opponents and partners alike enjoy being at the table with her. Joan’s dedication to the bridge community has been demonstrated over many years of volunteering at tournaments, and most recently she was instrumental in writing the Unit’s election procedures.
Joan epitomizes goodwill through her actions at bridge and in all aspects of her life.
GOODWILL COMMITTEE
The Duplicate Bridge Association of Atlanta is proud to support both the ACBL and District 7 Goodwill Programs.
The Goodwill Committee exists to promote the concepts of goodwill within the game of bridge and to recognize ACBL members who demonstrate the highest standards of sportsmanship, volunteerism and ethical behavior. The District 7 Goodwill Comittee includes members who were appointed to the ACBL Goodwill Committee by their District Director and members who were nominated hy their Unit
District 7 accepts nominations of new Goodwill members from the Units in odd-numbered years. These individuals are honored for their exemplary behavior and volunteer work that can range from helping at tournaments and clubs, mentoring, teaching, and/or promoting bridge through various means such as fundraising or administrative work. Members who are selected from their Unit receive a District 7 Goodwill Committee pin and are invited to attend an induction ceremony at the Goodwill banquet, which is held biennially in odd-numbered years at the Greenville Regional.
Additional information on the Goodwill Committee may be found at the links below, or by contacting Judy Fendrick at bobfendh@bellsouth.net.
