History of the Club

The Hattiesburg Duplicate Bridge Club was founded in 1956 by Mr. Marvin Reuben and his wife, Mrs. Betty Reuben.  Other founding members included Dr. Fred Hill and his wife Mrs. Ann Hill, Dr. Nollie Felts, Jr., Mr. Maury Gurwich, and Ms. Sarah Gillespie. 

In 1961, the ACBL sanctioned Unit 214 to include Hattiesburg, Laurel, Columbia, Lumberton, and other surrounding areas.  

The first two club members to earn their life master ranks were Mr. Marvin Reuben and Mrs. Betty Reuben. 

Still living 67 years later are Maury Gurwich of Houston, TX, and Dr. Nollie Felts, Jr. of Hattiesburg, MS.
