The Standard American (SA) bidding system is the one that we teach to newer players at GRBC. The major difference between SA and 2/1 is that whenever a responder who has not previously passed makes a simple two-level response in a new suit (for example 1 heart-2 clubs), the auction is absolutely 100% forcing to game. To make this forcing-to-game-two-level response, a responder must have the values for an opening bid. Because of this difference between SA and 2/1, other changes follow, but you still bid many hands the way you have always bid them. Whether or not you choose to play 2/1, it’s a good idea to know how it works because many of your opponents will be playing it. This module introduces you to the basic concepts of 2/1, but further study will be needed.
