Beginner II & Intermediate Bridge Classes Are Booming

Tuesday, 03 October 2023 by Sherry Kinkopf

For the past two weeks, classes for Beginner II and Intermediate have been bustling at the big house. Their latest skills include overcalls and doubles, so we use boards played at the club on the day of the class to apply any new content and practice other skills.

Beginner II students are overachievers--a small group of our students have put together a practice game twice a week.  On Friday the 29th, students came before our regular game and we have to thank Pat Millette and Sandra Baggett for helping them with bidding and play that day! Our members are very generous with their time, expertise, and support for budding players.  Thank you, again!  I think they are playing again this Friday morning, October 6th, if you'd like to come and mentor them about 9:30 or 10:00.

Intermediate students are also digging into concepts that are part of the intricacies of Standard American.  The first lesson focused on hand evaluation basics, including the Rule of 20.  In lesson two, students learned how to reverse a hand as both opener and responder--this powerful tool is a necessary piece of Standard American Bridge that helps players show those 18-19 point hands that don't meet a 1 or 2 No Trump opener or a 2 Club opener.

20 to 299 Master Points – Tricks and tips for intermediate duplicate bridge players

Because these types of hands appeared in boards that Beginner II played this week, we plan to add a lesson on reverses to week 3 for the class.

We welcome club members to join us in mentoring our new and intermediate players.
